Trucker Cited for Fatal Crash in Ohio
Police reported that a truck driver fatally struck a pedestrian near O’Hare International Airport last week. The accident occurred Monday May 8, at approximately 12:40 a.m., and the pedestrian was headed eastbound on the 11500 block of West Irving Park.
This section of park is a four-lane highway that is on the perimeter of the airport. The area has no sidewalks, and also appears to lack streetlights.
The 63-year-old truck driver was traveling eastbound when the accident occurred. He stopped to provide aid and to call the police. The victim was transported to Lutheran General Hospital in park ridge where he was pronounced dead. As of last week, he had not been identified. Authorities say the man appeared to be homeless and seemed to be between the age of 40 and 50.
The truck driver was cited for failure to exercise due to a pedestrian in the roadway.
