Trucker Charged in Fatal Las Vegas Crash
A truck driver has been charged for an accident on Christmas Eve 2014 that claimed the lives of four individuals.
Phillip Trujillo was found guilty of gross vehicular manslaughter after he attempted to turn his tractor-trailer in a northbound freeway against oncoming traffic. While the driver was turning onto a road during this time, authorities believe the truck was suffering from mechanical problems.
The vehicle had been cited for mechanical problems in the past and the truck was going only 2 mph when the accident occurred. While some motorists were able to avoid the trucker, a van crashed and burst into flames.
Mechanical problems are a common cause of trucking accidents, though routine checks and inspections according to industry guidelines can be used to reduce the probability of these instances occurring.
