Transition Trucking Contest Nears Its End
The Transition Trucking contest is drawing to a close, and one lucky truck driver will be receiving keys for a new Kenworth T680. The contest was announced at the Mid-America Trucking Show this past April in Louisville, Kentucky.
Three finalist and a winner will be announced on December 16th in Washington, D.C. The Trucking Transition program is aimed at helping to teach veterans about available opportunities in the truck driving industry. The program is conducted in conjunction with FASTPORT.
Voters were able to choose between finalists Troy Davidson, Russell Hardy, and Kevin Scott, with voting ending this past week. Drivers who are military veterans or serve in the National Guard or Reserve are eligible for the program, provided they graduated from a NAPFTDS or CVTA driver training school or a PTDI-certified program. Those in the contest are also required to have been hired by a trucking company which pledged to hire veterans between January 1st 2015 and June 29th 2016.
In July, 10 finalists remained. At the Great American Trucking show in Dallas this past August, the finalists were narrowed down to three. The winner of the contest will receive a round-trip airline ticket to Washington, D.C., including a two-night stay at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City in Arlington, Va. The two runners up will also be awarded as well.
