Odd Twist in the Case of Driver Who Was Shot
A truck driver recently made headlines after reporting he was shot on the road is garnering more attention as his case develops.
The driver was traveling near Verrado on I-10 when he reported being injured by gunfire. Police investigated as the driver claimed to have been shot in the leg while on the road.
However, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the driver later admitted to investigators that he accidentally shot himself in the leg while behind the wheel.
The name of the trucker and additional details behind the shooting have not been released, as police are still investigating the incident.
The topic of firearm ownership among truck drivers is a controversial one, with many claiming it is necessary to help protect against the high rate of crime aimed at America’s truckers. With so many instances of drivers being targeted, the individual in this case may have legitimately believed he was attacked when the incident occurred.
While the shot could be thought of as nothing more than an accident and an isolated occurrence, the threat such a misfire poses to other drivers is something officials and safety advocates will undoubtedly look into.
