New Partnership Presents Health Options for Truckers
Trucker health has been a popular topic in the industry for quite some time. Drivers show above-average rates for obesity and heart disease, largely due to the sedentary lifestyle the freight industry is known for. But a newly formed partnership will aim to provide information and resources to help drivers better their health.
Siphiwe Baleka (also known as “The Fittest Truck Driver in America”) has recently announced a partnership with Progressive’s TruckerTerritory.com. The partnership involves with Progressive Commercial Auto Insurance’s continued commitment to supporting truck driver wellness initiatives.
Truck drivers have always been disadvantaged from a health perspective in terms of their work arrangement. A lack of exercise facilities and healthy food options on the road makes it easy for anyone to pack on pounds once they begin making their living in the cab. Siphiwe was a former athlete, who even tried his hand at making the Olympics for swimming.
But though he had been health-conscious his entire life, he gained 10% of his previous body weight once he worked as an over-the-road driver for just two months. After seeing first hand just how hard it is for drivers to stay healthy, he made it his mission to spread the word about these issues and make resources available for drivers to improve their health.
Progressive will be giving away 1,000 promo codes for Siphiwe’s Active Trucker Fitness Program in honor of Trucker Health Awareness Month. This $29.99 retail value features various exercises designed for truck drivers.
Brett Stalnaker, a commercial auto product manager for Progressive, said: “We are excited to work with Siphiwe. Being a trucker himself, he understands a trucker’s struggle to achieve their health and fitness goals while on the job. Siphiwe’s dedication to improving the health of truckers is completely in line with Progressive’s commitment, which is why we think this will be such a successful partnership.”
