Kenworth Delivers US Capitol Christmas Tree
The tree lighting celebration at the Capitol Building takes place every year at Christmas, where thousands of people flood to the national grounds to witness this auspicious occasion. This year, Kenworth T680, embarked on an important mission. The company was responsible for the transportation of the U.S. Capitol’s Christmas tree. This tree participated in at least 10 community celebrations, along its way to Washington D.C., covering the distance of almost 3000 miles.
The Kenworth truck, which was responsible for the tree delivery, is a special design which was unveiled on 27 October, 2015 just before the tree-cutting ceremony, near Seward, Alaska. The helm of the truck was adorned with the picture of the U.S. Capitol building, underneath a sky full of stars. The words “From the Northern Lights to Capitol Lights” could be seen clearly on the truck. The blue and white design was a clear interpretation of the classical Christmas spirit.
The truck also carried the Capitol Building’s Christmas tree’s official seal, a map of the official designated route and the Alaska label of Lynden Transport, which is a longtime client of Kenworth in Anchorage. The T680 was made ready for this trip by PacLease, which provides customized full series lease, rental and contract maintenance and management programs involving Kenworth trucks.
The custom truck started its journey from the Port of Tacoma in Seattle and carried the 74-foot Lutz Spruce tree to Washington. This tree was specially harvested in late October in the Chugach National Forest in Alaska. Kurt Swihart, Kenworth marketing director, said in his statement, “This year’s Capitol Christmas Tree Tour provided some great moments for the adults and children at the community events and for those who saw the ‘The People’s Tree’ going down the highway transported by our special Kenworth T680 tour truck. We’re proud to have participated in this American tradition.”
The tree was delivered under the keen eye of an experienced Kenworth driver, named John Shank, who has logged in more than 5 million miles in his career as a driver, on the Dalton highway. The truck pulled the tree on a trailer made specifically for this occasion. The 76-inch mid roof sleeper incorporates a fuel-efficient 485-hp PACCAR MX-13 engine with a 1650 lb. /ft. of torque.
The truck was also equipped with Eaton Fuller advantage 10-speed automated manual transmission dispatcher and Kenworth TruckTech+. This type of the truck is usually utilized for transporting liquid in bulk. Kenworth has invested heavily in the aerodynamic friendly light freight hauler, with the comfort of a high roof sleeper to ensure river safety, productivity and retention.
According to Kenworth marketing director, Kurt Swihart, “The tour of the “Peoples Tree’ offers millions of Americans the opportunity to see our nation’s symbol of celebration. The Kenworth T680 mid roof 76-inch sleeper offers the perfect spec’d truck to complete this important tour. It provides a comfortable work environment and the truck’s inspiring graphics offer visitors at each stop a nice reminder of the tree’s origin and destination.”
The tree was delivered on Wednesday evening to the capitol building, which was lit by U.S. Speakers of the House, Paul Ryan and Stephen T. Ayers. The ceremony was attended by thousands of people. – See more at: http://truckernews.com/kenworth-delivers-us-capitol-christmas-tree-p591-90.htm#sthash.npU6JR31.dpuf
