Kentucky Trucker Gets Shut Down After Leading Police on Chase
A Kentucky-based truck driver has recently been shut down following an accident last month. While an accident isn’t always grounds for pulling a driver from the road, it was the driver’s actions afterwards which caused the disciplinary action.
After Dalton McCoy Lampley crossed a median while heading eastbound on I-24 in Kentucky, he ended up striking two vehicles. The serious nature of this accident was enough to garner attention, but the driver’s reaction to the situation was even more concerning.
According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, the driver fled the scene of the accident and continued along his journey even with police officers in pursuit of him. The chase continued off of the interstate and into Calvert City, Kentucky.
Police officers set up spike strips along the roadway in an attempt to stop the driver. However, the trucker ended up changing lanes to avoid the trap – and headed right toward a police officer in the process. Thankfully, the officer was able to get out of the way and avoid injuries.
The driver’s vehicle was later disabled and he was arrested. His charges include reckless driving, assault, criminal mischief, and resisting arrest. He also informed police that he had taken a Schedule II controlled substance that day and during the days leading up to his arrest.
