Former Wal-Mart Executive Added to USA Truck’s BOD

USA Truck Inc. announced that Susan Chambers has been appointed to the company’s Board of Directors. While Ms. Chambers isn’t known for being a figure in the trucking industry, she is certainly not lacking in business experience.

With a history of fulfilling multiple important duties as a high-ranking executive for Wal-Mart, Ms. Chambers brings a number of unique elements to USA Truck, and current board members seem very confident in their decision to hire her. Company Chairman Robert A. Peiser had this to say: “Susan’s vast experience as a senior officer of one of America’s iconic companies will assist us in areas that are critical to the success of our company – most notably, driver and staff retention as well as leveraging technology to enhance operational effectiveness.”

With issues pertaining to shortages and a decline of applicants plaguing some trucking companies around the country, this type of staffing expertise could boost USA Truck’s ability to hire and retain quality talent in spite of economic obstacles.

In addition to functioning as Chief Human Resource Officer for Wal-Mart Stores Inc., Ms. Chambers handled compensation, benefits, and communication efforts for over two million associates across the globe. She has experience working in compliance with a large amount of regulations pertaining to inclusion and diversity, and Ms. Chambers’ skill set can easily make a positive impact on this trucking company.

While many high-ranking members of trucking companies use industry expertise gained through an extended period of time working in the field, bringing in an “outsider” could be a very intelligent business move on the part of USA Truck for a number of reasons.

Not only does Ms. Chambers have experience working for a company that depends heavily on reliable truck drivers, but her personable and professional approach to managing employee issues can bring some much needed improvement to a line of work where some drivers feel unattached to their company. Board members believe that by bringing a fresh mindset and a proven record of quality in this area, Ms. Chambers can have a positive impact on the company’s overall performance.

USA Truck provides solutions that numerous organizations in the country depend on. Improving the company’s ability to retain and grow a talented pool of drivers could help the USA Truck expand their efforts and become more successful.
