ATA Names Second Senior Vice President of Legislative Affairs
John Drake has been named as the second senior vice president of legislative affairs for the American Trucking Associations. The announcement was made by ATA president and CEO Chris Spear this past Tuesday. The other senior vice president of legislative affairs position is currently held by Mike Joyce.
Drake joins ATA after serving as Deputy Administrator for the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration, a group created by the US Department of Transportation.
Spear spoke about the importance of having members who have influence and experience in the legislative aspect of things, saying: “ATA’s members deserve the very best representation on Capitol Hill, advocating on their behalf. I’m pleased that John will be joining our team, further elevating our talent pool and helping advance the trucking industry’s agenda.”
ATA’s Executive Vice President for Advocacy, Bill Sullivan, spoke about the possibility of progress for the trucking industry in Washington thanks to the new staffing choice. He said: “It’s a new day in Washington and an exciting time at ATA. John’s skills and relationships with the executive branch and both the House and the Senate will help us make the case for trucking our members need us to make. Just as importantly, John has the energy and intensity to help us win.”
Drake has also served in another high-ranking positions related to the transportation industry. He has also worked as a staff member for the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, as well as the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure.
